Dear Members of Congress

George Ure of Urban Survival just posted the following open letter, which I feel succinctly merits becoming an open petition. As such I am posting it with intact along with my own endorsement:

"Now that President Bush has nominated Paul Wolfowitz to head up the World Bank, I urge you to put aside partisan politics and vote to defeat Wolfowitz's nomination. As you may recall, Wolfowitz is one of the fellows who championed going into Iraq, a country (without WMD's) which in case you have forgotten among your lobbyist visits, is where American soldiers are still dying almost every day. The American people deserve a clean conclusion to the war and letting Wolfowitz "skate" off to a new position before his present task is complete, does not in our view represent the best interests of the American people, nor our brave men and women in the field. Don't move him "up and out" if he can't get Iraq right: Just out would be fine."

Respectfully,

Steven Lagavulin

Within the last 2 weeks i have come on several articles detailing the WEALTH of oil in several areas of the USA.

I find it interesting that you and FTW apparently choose to ignore the vast resources that are EACH stated to hold at least as much and possibly MORE OIL than Saudi Arabia!

For Reference: Article one was in the Deseret Morning News in Salt Lake City, UT on or about April 15th -20, 2005.

Between the 3 cornors of Utah,Wyoming and Colorado there Shale Oil estimated at 1.8 TRILLION Barrels, and Tar Sands oil estimated at 400 BILLION Barrels.

Secnond article found on www.peakoil.com and entitled "How Large is Prudhoe Bay?".
This article discusses the huge oil discovery at Gull Island, just 5 miles north of Prudhoe Bay in the Beaufort Sea.

The article quotes Antony C. Sutton writing in "Energy", "The Created Crisis. It is obvious from this information that indeed the "crisis" is created and you all have apparently fallen for the bait OR are in on the scam and just trying to keep it going.

I look forward to your response.

Thank you.
M. Thatcher

Thanks for taking the time to post your questions. The key thing to understand is that these huge "reserves" you're speaking of are actually very messy composites of oil along with sand or shale and such. So you cannot simply sink a well in them and draw the oil out--if that were possible it would have been done long ago. Think of the difference (although it's not exact) between an underground pool of water and an underground pool of mud.

So the way this oil is extracted is by drawing up huge amounts of sludge and seperating the desireables from the undesireables. It's very expensive and very pollutive.

I don't make oil industry analysis a special study for myself, but those who do indicate the price of oil would have to double or triple from here to make it cost effective to go after these deposits. And there is great interest in doing that right now. But the trade off is that fuel prices that high will bankrupt the already collapsing economies of the world in a myriad of ways. Which would result in a corresponding decrease in oil demand....
